Attendance

If your child is going to be absent, please call the attendance line to inform us, the morning of the absence. Please call 877-1279 (press 2) by 8:00 a.m. If you can’t call in the morning, be sure to call within 24 hours.  Only the student’s parent/legal guardian may report an absence.

If you do not have a phone, please send a note with your child upon his/her return. This note needs to be presented to the attendance secretary to receive admittance to class.

Absences are recorded as EXCUSED or UNEXCUSED. EXCUSED absences are defined by the Albuquerque Public Schools as:

  • Doctor’s appointment
  • Illness(including chronic illness documented on a health plan, IEP or 504 plan)
  • Death in the Family
  • Limited Family emergency
  • Religious commitment
  • Diagnostic testing
  • Limited Extenuating circumstances – as agreed to by the administration 1 week prior to an absence
  • Suspensions

“Excessive absences or unexcused absences, defined as ten or more absences per semester, may result in a recommendation for retention, loss of credit, disenrollment, and/or, disciplinary action. Absences resulting from short-term suspensions, or authorized absences such as those approved for participation in athletic or extracurricular events, are not to be included when evaluating absences.


Cell Phones & Other Electronics

Students may not use cell phones or other electronic devices during the school day. If cell phones are seen during the school day they may be confiscated by an adult and held in the office. Parents may pick up phones/other electronics in the office on Mondays and Wednesdays (only) between 3:15 and 4:00 pm.

Because of the potential for theft, damage, and/or disruption, students are discouraged from bringing valuable items to school. This includes cellular phones, pagers, walkmans, boom boxes, computerized games, CD’s, tape recorders (including earphones), card collections, toys, excessively large amounts of money, etc. Other valuable items that are necessary for school (instruments, textbooks, etc.) need to be marked clearly with the student’s name. The school does not assume responsibility for any items that are lost or stolen and will not look for lost of stolen items.


Dress Code

Harrison Middle School uniform policy is for the safety and well being of all our students and staff.  Please follow the dress code at all times while on campus or school activity.  Students failing to follow this dress code will miss valuable time waiting for a parent to bring their appropriate uniform clothing.

Allowed:

  • Shirts - Colors - any color Polo style shirts--2 or 3 buttoned collared shirt-bottom 2 buttons must remain buttoned.  The logo must not exceed 1 inch in diameter.
  • Sweaters - Zip-up sweaters only
  • Pants/Shorts/Skorts/Skirts - COLORS - khaki, navy blue, or black ONLY (NO GREY OR BROWN) Cotton/twill material may be pleated or flat in front. Shorts, skirts, and skorts must be as long as the middle finger when arms are held straight down by your side. ALL PANTS, SHORTS, SKIRTS, AND SKORTS MUST BE WORN AT THE WAIST AND BE THE CORRECT SIZE AND TUCKED AT ALL TIMES. UNIFORM PANTS MUST HAVE INSIDE POCKETS.
  • Footwear - Shoes of some type must be worn at all times.  It is a safety issue.
  • Coats/Jackets/Hoodies - Jackets and sweaters worn during COLD WEATHER must be unzipped or unbuttoned while inside and must not be “oversized”.  Hoodies are to be worn only while outside not in the classroom.  Cold weather caps worn only outside when it is COLD.
  • Other - Belts, including the end of the belt, must be in belt loops. Shirts must be tucked at all times. NO FOLDING OR CUTTING OF UNIFORM PANTS.
  • Backpacks - Backpacks must be school appropriate
  • I.d.'s and Lanyards - Identification cards and lanyards are part of your uniform and should be worn at all times during the school day

Not Allowed:

  • Shirts - >No full-front buttoned shirts. No form-fitting shirts. No lace/camisole undershirts.
  • Sweatshirts/Sweaters - No vests
  • Pants/Shorts/Skorts/Skirts - No Capris, No Cargo Pants/Shorts. No jeans, corduroy, or stretch materials such as nylon, spandex, or polyester.  (Jeans are pants with outside pockets and/or metal rivets.) NO BAGGING, SAGGING, OR CUT-OFF PANTS OR ALTERING OF UNIFORM. NO “JOGGERS” ARE PERMITTED AS UNIFORM PANTS.
  • Footwear - No flip-flops, backless shoes, platforms, high heels, and sandals. NO SLIPPERS OR LOOK-A-LIKE SLIPPERS.
  • Coats/Jackets/Hoodies - No oversized coats, jackets, etc..  NO BASEBALL CAPS.
  • Other - Sunglasses outside only, decorative contacts, helmets, bandannas, spiked accessories, chains, wallet-to-pocket chains, pajamas. No drug, alcohol, sex, violence, tobacco or death advertisements on clothing or backpacks.
  • Backpacks - No writing or inappropriate logos, etc.
  • I.d.'s and Lanyards - Only Harrison Middle School ids and lanyard are allowed at Harrison.
